Obrian and the New Guards! is a Radioactive Man comic story first printed in Radioactive Man #197.

Synopsis[edit]

"It's 1971, and far across the galaxy one truly evil overlord is bent on conquering Radioactive Man's Zenith City, but with a little help from Obrian of the New Guard and the Whatever People, our beloved bolted hero may have all the help he needs to ward off the dark, apocalyptic machinations of... Backseid!"

Plot[edit]

Backseid and Markee watch Radioactive Man on the big screen in their lair on the planet Ragnarokaway as they talk about how they will conquer Earth. Meanwhile, a costumed person called Yentah is watching them.

Obrian and the New Guards![edit]

Yentah runs up to Obrian on the planet New Gentry and tells him about what he overheard on Ragnarokaway. Obrian decides that he needs to do something about it and goes to Earth to find Radioactive Man so they can team up and stop Backseid. Obrian lands in the middle of traffic in Zenith City and is approached by Officer Sullivan who wants him to get out of the way and stop causing trouble. Claude Kane III and Gloria Grand are also caught in the traffic and as Gloria decides to walk, Claude changes into Radioactive Man and goes to confront Obrian.

Project Meanpeace![edit]

Radioactive Man reaches Obrian and the two start to talk. However, both heroes decide that the other may be a villain so they start to fight each other. Meanwhile, in Bug Boy's lab, Bug Boy tells Gloria that two worlds are at war and Earth is getting caught in the middle of it. The only words he was able to translate from the transmission were "Project Meanpeace". At this time, Radioactive Man and Obrian are still fighting.

Back on New Gentry, the leaders find a message written on the wall in tomato paste saying that Obrian was interfering with Ragnarokaway's war on Earth. The leader, who is Obrian's father, finds Yentah and gets him to tell him everything. The Whatever People are then sent to Earth to find Obrian and bring him back.

Oh Behave, Backseid![edit]

Obrian tells Radioactive Man that he doesn't want to fight him and calms down. Obrian then tells Radioactive Man that he is deploying Project Meanpeace. When Radioactive Man asks what Meanpeace is, Obrian gets angry again and explains that "When I say I want peace, I mean peace". Obrian then starts to attack Radioactive Man again. The fighting between the two causes a large mushroom cloud which alerts Gloria to where they are. Meanwhile, The Whatever People arrive in Bug Boy's lab and Gloria agrees to take them to Radioactive Man and Obrian.

Radioactive Man and Obrian are still fighting when Obrian's "Brother Box" goes off, calming him down. Gloria and The Whatever People then arrive and introduce themselves. They then explain that they are there to take Obrian back to New Gentry because there's protesting against the war. Flightrisk tells Radioactive Man that they will open a dialogue with Backseid when they get back and the rest of The Whatever People take Obrian back to New Gentry, leaving Radioactive Man and Gloria in the destruction that is left behind. The inspectors from New Gentry then arrive at Ragnarokaway.
