Proposition 24

The Proposition 24 was a Springfield referendum aimed at deporting undocumented immigrants from the town.
History[edit]
Following a bear attack in Springfield, residents demanded that the mayor take action to protect the town. Mayor Quimby introduced a Bear Patrol, funded by a new tax. When residents protested the tax, Quimby blamed the town's financial problems on illegal immigrants and proposed Proposition 24 as a solution.
One week before the referendum, Springfield residents began campaigning for Proposition 24. Homer Simpson initially supported the measure, believing that immigrants were responsible for overcrowded schools and increased taxes. However, he changed his position after discovering that Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the owner of the Kwik-E-Mart, was an undocumented immigrant facing deportation.
Apu obtained fraudulent identification documents from Fat Tony, but Homer eventually helped him prepare for the citizenship examination. Apu passed the test and became an American citizen before the referendum.
Despite Homer's public speech opposing Proposition 24, the measure passed with 95% of the vote. The result meant that undocumented immigrants in Springfield faced deportation. Groundskeeper Willie was subsequently deported, while Apu remained in the country as a citizen.
