- "After being embarrassed and rejected by Bart, Homer takes an impressionable Ralph Wiggum under his wing. But it doesn't take long before Bart gets jealous and wants back in on the father/son/extra son relationship. Meanwhile, Lisa has problems of her own when she is responsible for disappearance the class hamster, only to discover a Lost World of long gone schoolroom pets in the deep recesses of Springfield Elementary... a New Hamsterdam, if you will."
Homer drives to Springfield Elementary to watch Bart playing basketball. Clancy Wiggum writes him a ticket for driving through the gym and hitting a crossing guard. Homer wants to avoid the fines, so Clancy lets Homer babysit Ralph while he and Sarah are on their second honeymoon weekend. This weekend, it is Lisa's turn to take care of Señor Nibbles, but when she turns her back, he escapes. Ralph comes over to the Simpson house and because Bart is busy playing video games, Homer goes out to play catch with him. Lisa is still in school and searching for Nibbles, but finds two other hamsters. She follows them to the basement, which is populated by several hamsters. Homer and Ralph watch TV and eat sausages while Bart looks enviously at them. Lisa finds Nibbles and socializes with the other hamsters. She teaches them to do tricks, and they decide to elect her their queen.
The next day, Ralph follows Homer to the father-son picnic because Bart did not want to go. Homer wins the pie-eating contest, then Ralph wins the climbing contest. Meanwhile, Lisa starts to think that the hamsters are a bit annoying. Bart decides to go to the father-son picnic with his new "father", Barney, who explains that Bart is paying him. The last contest is a scavenger hunt, which Ralph wins. Lisa yells at the hamsters because they don't like her any more, so they chase her to the park where the picnic is held and they start biting people. Bart gets an idea: he takes Lisa's hamster food and throws it at Ralph, who is smeared with caramel, and Lisa and Bart roll him over the hamsters, who stick to him. Krusty decides that the prize will be shared between Bart and Ralph because he rescued them. Homer apologizes for embarrassing Bart, and is forgiven. Clancy comes to pick up Ralph, who is in the hamster ball, but Clancy thinks it's okay because he's been through worse situations and Homer's debt is paid.
The next school day, Ms. Hoover asks Lisa to hand out the pop quiz, but instead she makes a few hamsters do it for her. Lisa tells the class that there are a few hamsters that still like her and she cannot get rid of them, and everyone should pretend that everything is normal.
