I think we need an image copyright tag (even if it's just a copy of the Lostpedia or whatever), I remember that Lostpedia got in trouble for not having one on their images. Hi Brian!

Hey Brian McClure, I've been editing here lately and have noticed the small community here. To combat that, I thought it may help stimulate this wiki if I changed up a few things, and to do them I would need administrator privileges. I talked to the active admins here, and they seem on board, so I thought I shall go through with it. Simpsons Timeline

Why did you delete my timeline? I know that it is contreversial on when the episodes are set due to the fact the characters don't age, but it is possible to cram all the episodes over 2 years.

So I try to help this site and instead I get blocked. Lovely. I'm sorry for upsetting people, but all I'm trying to do is help this place. When I first started here two years ago, it was a completely awful website, and I put in a lot of hard work to try to improve it, but it was simply too much for one person. I came back every now and then, and it slowly improved. However, this site has a LONG way to go before it could be considered a good wiki along the lines of Lostpedia or Memory Alpha. Users here seem FAR more concerned with quantity rather than quality. A lot of the articles are poorly written, but are users concerned with that? Nope, all they want to do is beef the site's page count. I've noticed that there are quite a few pointless disambiguations here (pages that haven't been touched in years), the only purpose of which is to bolster the site's page count. So I try to do something about it, and Solar Dragon, rather than engaging in a discussion with me (which is what he's encouraged to do) decides to block me, because I had the audacity to challenge his authority. And, rather than improve pages, he would rather engage in this silly activity. I admit, I have a bit of an abrupt way of doing things, but all I've tried to do is help this site, and for me to be blocked because of it would be ludicrous. "Oh we have to let the community decide"

So after all this nonsense about community consensus and such, Solar the Dictator took it upon himself to remove my bureaucratic powers anyway.

I have no problem with the editors here, or even Solar Dragon the editor. My problem is with the way he's doing this. Rather than let users make up their own mind, he's threatening to leave, thus meaning a user is either with him or against him. And, since he's been here longer than I, it's going to work, and he knows it. That's what's pathetic. Rather than just editing, he's putting the site through this nonsense.

Quite frankly, I think he should resign after going through this. He made a mountain out of a molehill and showed his true colours. He's a petty authority-whore who couldn't stand having another crat here who had a mind of their own. You should resign as crat, and appoint someone who actually has a clue, like Smiley.

I've put a lot of work into this site and done a lot to promote it, and it's sad that it ends this way. But, this ordeal has been funny. Very very funny.

Well, that was certainly an interesting few hours. Solar was big enough to admit his mistake, so I will follow suit. I wish apologize to him for my comments (though I hope he can appreciate my point of view). I will also extend an apology to the site as a whole. As I've said before, it's far from perfect, but it's nice to see that there is a group of editors dedicated to it, and I sincerely hope that my actions have not driven any of them away.

However, I will still be going on a break. I am quite busy these days, which is why I've had the long absenses, but I decided to contribute here because I felt the site was on the right track, but could use some guidance. But I guess others weren't really looking for guidance, and that was the problem. Still, after this unpleasantness (which has really made me wonder why I should bother), I think I, and the other users, need a break from eachother.

I would like to impart some advice though.

Yes, this is a Simpsons-focused wikia, but there are a lot of pages that are kind of useless. Does each member of the Simpson family mentioned in the Uncensored Family Album need their own page? Couldn't they all be merged into one efficient page?

I also hope that users will start to focus more on content rather than page number and edit count. Sure, having a lot of pages means a lot of depth, but having interesting, well-written pages is what gets readers to stick around.

That's not true, Mythigator obviously cares, since he decided to recreate the page at a redirect, which IS counterproductive. We need to start encouraging users to do things correctly, otherwise you end up with a big mess. Warnings

If you suspect a user of vandalism or adding false information, please use the {{subst:Vandalism}} template as a warning instead of going straight for a block unless they have done a lot of different things wrong. This limits the chance of false blocks and the user can explain themselves too.

Also, I am sorry to say that a person who has not signed up yet has told me that he was slightly reluctant to as you intimidated him. I have persuaded him to join up but if this happens to one user, chances are it could happen to others too. So, could you maybe tone things down a bit please? If "Not many users like" me, that means I'm doing my job. As admins, we need to be leaders and do what we can to improve the site. This means articles need to be deleted, users need to be blocked, and warnings need to be issued so we can keep things on the right path. It's not easy to do, and things are made harder if you're going to lecture me everytime I try to do my job, and if you're going to play these games. In the future, if anyone has a complaint about me, tell them to bring it to me directly. I don't mean leader in the elected sense. I mean leader as in, we're expected to give out guidance, help others and maintain order. It's like the friendly janitor in The Breakfast Club: you do a lot of cleaning, some maintaining of order, and you give a few sage words here and there. Besides, I haven't had any comfrontations with any unregistered users since I got back (well, other than the IP I blocked for adding those fake episode titles), so I'm not sure what intimidation you're referring to.

Give it a rest. Stop critising each other harshly. For one thing, not many users liking is a side effect of being an admin and enforcing the policies (or in my experience). I got that one, Solar Dragon, one of the nicest admins. Me (and a unknown guy, my lawyer in this. ) are, in a matter of badges, the 2 best users on the wiki that are not a rollback, admin, or bureaucrat. As the more active of the 2, I have seen a lot. IPs have IRCed saying they are scared. Even MY IP was blocked by this guy. Admins can be strict, but not this strict. Even Rollbacks are starting to get worried, I bet. Talk to a real one, aka THE HOMER. I am not talking about Solar Dragon, Smiley12, etc., but Brian, stop being strict. Just because you are an admin does not mean you are better than everyone. Bartholomew JoJo Simpson is descriptive, name 1 thing wrong with it. Links improve the site, besides, none of them are red links. The & thing was the stupid one, I admit that.

Actually, I did see that episode.

It may have been a bit of a while, but I did see that episode. And actually, I was pretty certain that Homer was the one driving, since the two other bullies were in the back seat and Jimbo was where Marge was. I was actually thinking about that little 'episode' at the end of "Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner" commentary the other day... do they mention Wikipedia on season 12's commentaries? I never bothered buying it. There was also another perfect Jean Wikipedia quote somebody posted on NoHomers... Well I'll guess we'll have to wait and see when he's let loose on season 13. And if they punished Hank, I'd hate to see what they did to Harry Shearer for all the times he's said the show is awful now. To be honest, I think most of the cast (certainly Hank and Harry) couldn't care less about the show anymore. Most of the time it doesn't sound like they're trying when they're recording now, and none of cast even bother going to Comic-Con. I would ask Harry or Hank on Twitter, but I don't think there's a nice way to say "Do you only still turn up for The Simpsons so you can get your $400,000 an episode pay check?". Oh well. If he showran an episode then he does. Which did he do? As for his unproduced episode, I think it's pretty much a guarentee it was about religion. But surely Nancy is the only Scientologist? "Legal ramifications" sounds more than them just being sued, though, but you're probably right. Perhaps it was some kind attack on all religions which would have caused some national outrage? As for writers who have edited Wikipedia, we may as well do a full page of that, the times Wikipedia has been mentioned in the show, the commentaries, Jean's "informed opinions" about it and the approval we've got from sane people like Bill and Phil Hartman's brother John. Introducing Wikia's new look:

Greetings! As many of you have already seen, Wikia is undergoing some major changes to their site layout. As of Wednesday, October 6th, the change will affect both the appearance and how things are done on several wikis, and come October 20th these changes will effect all Wikia sites. These changes are mandatory as this is not simply a new skin option, it’s actually an upgraded version of the core Mediawiki platform itself. Check out "Experience the new Wikia" for a look at some wikis using the new look, FAQ and the Transition guide.

Transitioning to the New Look

We know you’ve put a lot of work into making your wikis look great in Monaco, so we’ve worked on our end to minimize the amount of effort needed for you to move to the new look. Still, there are some things you’ll want to do in order for your wiki to look its best in the new skin. We strongly encourage you to use our Wiki Transition Guide to make this process as smooth and seamless as possible.

Our new theme designer tool will be available to everyone during the first stage of sitewide roll-out on October 6th. This gives you time to experiment with different themes and chat with your community about what looks best before all visitors see your wiki in the new look.

We know that many of you are Wikia experts, and have a ton of experience to share with newer users, who may need more help with the transition. To tap all your knowledge, we will soon be setting up a page where users can request and provide help on the transition.

Timeline

The next step is to slowly but surely move all wikis over to the new skin. While there may be some tweaks, the projected schedule is below so that you know what to expect over the coming weeks.

Discontinued features

• The widget dashboard and all widgets are to be discontinued as they were deemed to be underused.
• "Report a Problem" links will also be discontinued with the new skin as they were not used as intended.
• "Email a user" link is gone.
• Page ratings are gone.

New features

• New, customizable toolbar that is anchored at the bottom of the screen (Watch the demo video to see how it works.) You will need to learn to use this. (requires JavaScript)
• New tool for customizing the colour scheme/theme, including default themes.

Other changes

• The new look uses a fixed width layout, we are not permitted to change, which might influence the layout of articles quite a bit.
• Wiki logo is replaced with "Wordmark", which admins can customize by adjusting the text & color, or by uploading an image in the theme designer.
• Site notice is no longer on every page. It is now located in the Community Corner and users will receive a notification bubble each time it is updated.
• The wiki navigation that is now on the left sidebar, is moving to the top of the screen. It will have 4 drop down menus, with 7 links each. This is substantially less than we currently have. (requires JavaScript)
• "My Home" becomes "Wiki Activity" and contains a link to recent changes
• There is a new sidebar area on the right that takes about 1/3 of each page's width, where the recent activity and other "modules" will sit. More "modules" are being developed for it, but there are currently no plans for user-developed modules.
• Moved the most recent editor’s name from the bottom of the page to the top, added an avatar, and a new mini-history dropdown menu, which contains the link to the full history. (Supposed to make it more obvious to new users that anyone can edit a wiki.) (requires JavaScript)
• Two of the categories are listed at top as well the full list at the bottom. Apparently the two chosen will be the categories containing the most pages. There is a blacklist to keep out typical maintenance categories, but it is not wiki specific (atm).
• Edit and talk buttons will be used instead of written links.
• The name of the user who uploaded a picture will be listed underneath the image caption on articles.
• The "Terms of Use" are changed so that we will only have very limited options on what we may change on the new layout that is visible to all users.

Terms of Use

In keeping with the goals of the new look, our Terms of Use have been updated as well. Admins will no longer be able to completely remove core features for all users by using custom CSS or JavaScript. This is to protect the universal layout and functionality of every wiki on Wikia and ensure that users have access to all of the features available in the new design. Remember, these new terms only apply to the CSS of the wiki as a whole -- they don’t apply to your personal pages.

To give a few practical examples of what this means: It’s not permitted to remove the right sidebar modules, blogs, and image attribution or add a banner that shifts the entire content area down the page, or alter the fixed width. You can still personalize your wiki with different colors and themes, add large, standout images to the wiki background, create styled templates and tables within the content area. There are plenty of ways to be creative! While these terms will limit what you can do to the overall layout, creativity is still an essential part of Wikia.
