Maggie's Crib is a Bart Simpson story that appears in Bart Simpson #72.

Synopsis

During a family trip to the zoo, Maggie's attempt at interspecies communication wins her a new friend.

Plot

The Simpson family are visiting the Springfield City Zoo. As they walk by the monkey cage, Lisa writes in a notepad, Homer snacks on a bag of peanuts, and Bart makes faces at the monkeys. Maggie, for her part, looks interestedly at the monkeys as Marge carries her.

They next walk by a cage with a gorilla family. The mother and father gorilla look bored as they sit quietly in the cage, but Maggie is struck by the sad expression on the baby gorilla's face. However, an idea quickly occurs to her, and she smiles.

Maggie is then suddenly without her pacifier, and she gets Marge's attention to show her that it's gone. Marge reaches into her purse, takes out a new pacifier and puts it into Maggie's mouth. As Marge starts to move on, Maggie turns and looks back at the gorilla family. The parents still look bored, but the baby gorilla is now smiling and has a pacifier in its mouth. Maggie and the baby gorilla wave at each other as Marge walks away.
