The Springfield time capsule was a time capsule in Springfield, which was formerly an American Civil War coffin.
History
When Principal Skinner told student at Springfield Elementary to bring an item to school for the time capsule, Bart put a sandwich, which he blew his nose with, in the time capsule. Afterwards, Springfield residents gathered at the Town Square where it was buried. It was subsequently discovered that one thousand years from then, led to creatures multiplying. This caused the Planet Express crew in New New York to go back in time and kill a Simpson family member to stop this from occurring.
