Bart is correct in that Abe's story incorporated multiple TV series. The following were referenced:
- The Waltons- Family introduction, set in the Depression and ending with goodnights; Abe had a brother named Jason and was also called Abe-Boy (despite multiple references that he was already an adult in the Depression), a reference to John-Boy
- The Brady Bunch- Young Abe is called Bobby once
- Green Acres- Not only is Abe's grandma Zza-Zza Simpson supposed to be Zsa-Zsa Gabor (canonically her name is "Happy" Dinsdale and looks nothing like her), in one instance she acts like her sister Eva's character Lisa Douglas
- Leave It to Beaver- Abe tells that the world went black and white for a while and his mom calls him Theodore
- The Partridge Family- Abe's mother drives the same bus on the show and calls him Danny then they sing the theme song
- Even The Simpsons themselves:
- Young Abe looks like Bart and is called that once
- His sister Rube Ella Simpson looks like Lisa (despite that he had no sisters)
- His baby brother Leroy Simpson also looks like Bart
- Abraham Simpson, Sr. looks more like Homer than Abe's real father Orville Simpson
- Olidia Simpson looks like Marge as Abe's real mother Yuma Hickman didn't
- Zeke Simpson (a reference to Zeb Walton) looks more like Abe himself than Abe's real grandfather Old Tut Simpson
- Abe's oldest brother Luke Simpson looks like Luke Perry who is supposed to be Krusty's brother on the show
- Abe's oldest sister Lisa Marie Simpson looks like and is supposed to be Elvis Presley's daughter and within the story shares Lisa's full name
- The title is a reference to "A Trip to Spencer's Mountain", the basis for "The Waltons"
