Trivia

  • At the end of Attack of the 50-foot Eyesores, Kent Brockman warns people watching the news about the statues coming to life in their town, "Lock your doors, bar your windows, because the next advertisement you see could destroy your house and eat your family." In Lisa the Vegetarian, when Lisa remembers Kent eating meat during his news segment, he says the same sentence, though most of it is cut out.
  • When Homer asks if anyone has seen the movie Tron and everyone says "no", Chief Wiggum answers no twice and says yes at the end but quickly corrects himself, saying no again.
  • The computer animated sequence was animated by Pacific Data Images, which would later be renamed PDI DreamWorks and be responsible for such hits as the Shrek movies, Kung Fu Panda, and the Madagascar movies.
  • Erotic cakes later appear in "Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes" when Marge gets a job as an erotic baker.
  • When Homer is exploring the 3D world, he passes the library from the computer game "MYST", while being accompanied by music from the game.
  • The "Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace" segment takes place on the 13th of Smarch.
  • The spider version of Willie has only six legs, whereas normal arachnids have eight.

Cultural references

  • In "Attack of the 50-Foot Eyesores", there is a comical twist of the typical scenario of a tempter portrayed as a "devil on your shoulder": The devil statue destroys Springfield Elementary School, being tempted by Bart on its shoulder.
  • Wendy's: When the advertising executive tells Lisa that advertising goes away if people stop paying attention to it, she asks, "Like that old woman who couldn't find the beef?", referring to Clara Peller and the "Where's the beef?" advertising campaign.
  • "Nightmare On Evergreen Terrace" is an obvious parody of A Nightmare On Elm Street, with Willie playing the part of Freddy Krueger.
  • Bart's dream is in the style of 1950s animated cartoons.
  • Terminator: The scene where Willie morphs into several objects in quick succession as he sinks into the sand resembles the T-1000's death scene in Terminator 2.
  • In "Homer³", when Homer is trying to explain the 3D world he is stranded in, he says "Uh... it's like... did anyone see the movie Tron?"
  • While Homer is trapped in the third dimension he says that there is so much stuff he doesn't know about astrophysics. He then goes on to say that he wishes he had read "that book by that wheelchair guy", a reference to Stephen Hawking.
