History[edit]

After Bart was expelled from school, his mother, Marge, decided to homeschool him. For one of his assignments, Marge gave Bart Johnny Tremain to read, a book she had read as a little girl. Bart became interested in the story when he learned that the protagonist was deformed from a war injury. He started taking his studies seriously, even skipping an episode of The Itchy & Scratchy Show to continue reading. Seeing his enthusiasm, Marge took Bart on a "field trip" to Olde Springfield Towne.[1]

Johnny Tremain was one of the books that the children burned in the school library. [2]
