Pop! Goes the Career is a Simpsons Comics story featured in Simpsons Comics #173.

Plot

Lisa is practicing for the school talent show. Marge tells her that she's good, Homer does not care, and Bart thinks that she is lousy. The next day, Sherri and Terri show off a Malibu Stacy Wig which they received as a birthday present. The girls in the schoolyard are impressed, so Bart steals the wig and begins to sing and dance like a girl. The girls are mad at Bart, but the boys love Bart. Antonio Vabosco sees that the children are enthralled with Bart, and goes to talk to Bart. Vabosco tells him that he will make him a star. Bart tells Antonio that he ca not dance or sing, but Antonio says that that's no problem. But when Bart tells him that he's really a boy, he realizes that there is a problem. He forces all students to sign a contract that forces them to tell people that Bart is not a girl. Bart starts his new career as a musician and Milhouse becomes his closest friend in his new career. Antonio drives to Homer and Marge to tell them what he wants to do with Bart. At first they are reluctant, but when Bart tells them that he wants to do it, they let him do it.

Immediately after the contract is signed, Bart is placed on an airplane and flies to the recording studio where they write his songs, record songs for CDs and make music videos. Bart is given the name Tori Missouri and his first public appearance is on The Krusty the Clown Shoe, and everyone in the audience loves Bart. Then they send Bart away on a three-week twelve-city tour.

Tori Missouri is soon to appear in Springfield and the kids in Springfield are thrilled. Lisa tries to tell them that Tori Missouri is a big fake, but they won't listen to her. Meanwhile, Bart begins to have problems. He begins to eat a lot and gains weight. He can't stand up and is forced to go on a diet, but Bart ignores it and continues eating.

Bart comes to Springfield as Tori Missouri to perform in the Springfield Founders Day Parade, but Bart has trouble dancing because he is so fat. He drops out of the car and starts to run away from the fans who start chasing him, and Bart ends up losing his wig. Bart gets fired and Antonio sends him home. Antonio is angry now; he must find a new job. The chauffeur, Kirk, tells him that you can turn anyone into a star. He sees Milhouse sitting in the car, but he throws him out and tells Kirk that even Vabosco has limits.
