D'oh vs. the Volcano! is a Simpsons Comics story that appears in Simpsons Comics #206.
Synopsis
- "Mr. Burns explores alternative sources of energy for the people of Springfield by tapping in the geothermal power from a nearby volcano; however, when the new source of fuel proves unstable, the town charter demands that the town offer a human sacrifice to appease the volcano gods and restore order.""
Plot
Waylon Smithers dismiss Homer after the appointed Springfield Nuclear Power Plant for another meltdown. Homer then goes to Mr. Burns for keeping his job, at the office he meets Smithers which crying and he telling at Burns has left them for another power plant. Homer convinces Smithers to go to Burns and tell him what he feels for him. He goes to the second power plant where Burns tells Smithers that he building a backup plant, unlike the older is the new gets the energy from Springfield's extinct volcano and he coming back soon. Smithers is happy and leaves Burns in his new power plants but before he walks away he playing with the dashboard.
A few hours later is the volcano exploding and magma starts spraying out of it and the city's residents start to flee in panic so even the Simpsons. When they'll run away, they discover that the whole town is surrounded by the magma. Joe Quimby tells the residents that he has a solution according the city chapter should they throw the least innocent into volcano to appease the angry gods. Lisa is against the contest but Quimby and the rest of town decides that should have a competition to find the city's stupidest people to throw it into the volcano. Krusty is the host and after the eleven selected must go through several tests, test number 17 is get a kite down from a tree. After all the tests, it turns out that it's a three-way tie between Cletus, Homer and Ralph so they decide that all three should be thrown into the volcano. Lisa then taking help from Marge to distract the inhabitants by cookies while she goes away with Cletus, Homer and Ralph. She takes them to the plant, where she asks them to fix the power plant that caused the outbreak. Homer hesitates but Lisa telling at he can only make things better and it can get any more worse. They meet there Hank which help them destroying the power plant, which let that the volcano eruption stops and the magma solidifies. Cletus, Bart and Ralph are acclaimed as heroes and Lisa do not understand why they do not celebrate her. Quimby then explain that the city is always celebrating the stupidest people for they always have to take care of everything in crises. An insight into 2200 is showing where the stupidest people continue to take care of a crisis in the city.
