Cultural References
- When Homer is sitting in his car listening to the radio during the Spinal Tap concert:
- While the band is playing, he hums along to "Summer Samba" by Marcos Valle.
- After the riot breaks out and the police start showing up in force, he sings along to an instrumental version of "Spanish Flea" (performed by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass), making up his own lyrics.
- Spinal Tap opens the concert with "Break Like the Wind".
- During his impromptu jam on the school bus, Otto performs "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Trivia
- Micheal McKean would later guest star in the episode "Monty Can't Buy Me Love" as Jerry Rude.
- Harry Shearer, a regular Simpsons voice actor, is also a member of Spinal Tap. He plays himself in this episode along with the rest of the band.
- It's ironic at the end of the concert that Otto was (along with Snake) the one who started the riot (and was implied to be the reason behind Spinal Tap's flops).
- Goofs—Continuity: Bart's guitar is a left-handed guitar when he is learning how to play, yet Otto can play it perfectly on the bus despite being right-handed. Later, when Otto is playing guitar with Bart in the garage, the guitar switches between being a left-handed model played righty by Otto, to a right-handed model, all in the same scene.
Continuity
- Otto later gets fired in the episode "The Mook, the Chef, the Wife, and Her Homer".
Goofs
- During the scene where Nelson is mocking Bart while waiting for the bus his Vest and shirt switch colors during the zoomed in part when he says "Polly wally crappy."
