History

The Simpson family watched the show and the victory at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics of Portugal's Carlos Lopes in the marathon at 38 years old. This motivated Homer to join the Springfield Marathon.

Carlos Lopes name is misspelled Lopez and the age presented is inaccurate because Lopes was 37 when he won the marathon, not 38. Also, the other athlete in the podium is black while the silver medal (John Treacy) nor the bronze medal (Charlie Speeding) are black
