[[Mr. Burns]] reveals to him that the company scientist, [[Dr. Olberman]], is developing a new, highly addictive type of donut which is being provided to the employees.

Burns announces to the workers that he is no longer providing them with donuts. The workers despair over this loss, especially [[Homer]] and bingeing on [[Kwik-E-Mart]] donuts fails to satisfy them. Burns offers to keep supplying his own donuts in exchange for a pay cut which the employees cheerfully agree to. As Homer is unable to control his donut eating habits, [[Marge]] and other townspeople demand a town Health Commission to determine the safety of the power plant donuts. With the help of [[Fat Tony]], Burns hooks most of Springfield on the donuts and they become immensely popular.
