Cultural references
- When Homer decides to go on a diet, he says, "As God is my witness, I'll always be hungry again!", referencing Scarlett O'Hara's quote, "As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!" from Gone with the Wind.
- Much of the music and scenes of Homer's workouts are similar to the training montage in Rocky.
- When Homer walks to the scale to weigh himself, the theme music from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly plays.
- A copy of the Andy Warhol painting Campbell's Soup Cans is visible in the art gallery where Marge's portrait of Mr. Burns is unveiled.
Goofs
- Homer weighs 239lbs in this episode; he was the same weight in "Homer's Night Out" and "King-Size Homer". By the end of the episode he is down to 225 pounds.
- When Carl Carlson speaks in the episode, it is Lenny's voice actor.
- When Krusty was being pressed by News Reporters about the incident at Mt. Splashmore with the H2WHOA!! and his attempts at driving them away, he apparently wipes away the "white makeup" on his head, despite the fact that it was implied in "Homer's Triple Bypass" that Krusty's bypass surgery that gave him a pacemaker permanently bleached his skin white.
