- The fight in the teachers' lounge parodies the typical "saloon fight" scene, a staple of many old Western movies.
- In Bart's dream, he parodies Superman, taking the asteroid dodgeball and throwing it back at the alien spacecraft.
- Comic Book Guy refers to Born on the Fourth of July as "Tom Cruise's last good movie."
- When Chief Wiggum drops Ralph on his head as a baby and he becomes unable to put his bottle in his mouth, the joke about dumb people being dropped on their heads as babies is being visualized.
