He often tried to entice potential clients with free gifts, including a "smoking monkey" doll and a business card that "turns into a sponge when you put it in water." Marge distrusts Lionel Hutz because he is an incompetent lawyer, even remarking once during a trial "We really should stop hiring him." Star Wars is a science fiction franchise originally developed from the 1977 film Star Wars directed by George Lucas. It has been referenced numerous times on the show.

Many characters from the movies have appeared, including Darth Vader, Yoda, C-3PO and R2-D2. Mark Hammil, the person who plays Luke Skywalker guest starred as himself in "Mayored to the Mob", which included several Star Wars references. James Earl Jones, voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars, has guest starred several times.
