Stockman was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in prison. However, due to a heart condition he died briefly three times while incarcerated, thus fulfilling the life sentences and forcing the court to release him after five years. The citizens of Shelbyville did not take this news well, and a mob was formed to drive Stockman out of town. Whether the mob ever got to Stockman is unclear, but Stockman was never seen in Shelbyville again.
