Daryl Gates (born Darrel Francis Gates; August 30, 1926 – April 16, 2010) was an American police officer, best known for being the chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), serving from 1978 until 1992. He appeared in the special episode Springfield's Most Wanted.
