Background[edit]
A freak lightning storm passed over Springfield and all the giant advertising mascots in town came to life. They went on a monstrous rampage through town, killing people and destroying buildings. Lisa Simpson saw an advertising copyright notice in Lard Lad's footprint and visited the ad agency to find out if anyone there knew how to get rid of the monsters. The man at the agency told her that advertising goes away if people stop paying attention to it, and what she needed was a catchy jingle to make people stop looking at the monsters. After a couple of abortive attempts at writing a jingle, the man told Lisa it would sound better coming from Paul Anka.
Lyrics[edit]
Lisa: [speaking]
Hey, Springfield! Are you suffering from the heartbreak of ... monster-itis? Then take a tip from Mr. Paul Anka!
Paul Anka: [singing and playing electronic keyboard]
To stop those monsters, one-two-three,
Here's a fresh new way that's trouble-free,
It's got Paul Anka's guarantee ... [winks]
Lisa:
Guarantee void in Tennessee.
Paul Anka and Lisa:
Just don't look! Just don't look! [repeat several times]
Aftermath[edit]
People immediately started looking away from the monsters and toward Anka and Lisa as they sang the song. By the third time they sang "Just don't look! Just don't look!" most of the monsters had collapsed and died. Lard Lad, however, was still alive and tempting Homer with his giant donut. Homer needed extra persuasion to make him stop looking at Lard Lad, but when he finally did, Lard Lad collapsed and died along with the other monsters.
