Synopsis[edit]

"Bart and Milhouse search Springfield to reap the financial rewards being offered by Channel 6 for news tips, but when it turns out to be a slow news day, they decide to fabricate a few phony stories of their own."

Plot[edit]

Milhouse and Bart are playing their own version of Monopoly, but it's disappointing and they cannot afford anything new. On TV, Kent Brockman offers $200 to the viewers who give them a newsworthy film . They broadcast a video that a viewer sent in depicting a fight between Gil and Groundskeeper Willie, which was awarded $200. Bart and Milhouse decide to borrow Kirk's video camera and they go out to film something newsworthy. They discover that Clancy Wiggum is letting Ralph drive the police car, but Milhouse forgets to press the recording button. The old folks in the retirement home have started a riot, but it has become dark and Milhouse forgets to activate the low light button, so their film is just total darkness. They activate the low light and film Homer eating a lot, but they realize that he will not give them any money. Milhouse gives up because they have failed three times, but Bart sees graffiti by El Barto on a poster of Mayor Quimby and realize they can fake a film. Bart dresses up as El Barto and Milhouse films his shadow, and they film several of his crimes. They send in the film and get $200.

They decide to make a new film, this time of Bart bungee jumping from Springfield Bridge with the camera taped to his helmet. Bart jumps, but the camera detaches from his helmet and flies up in the air, and a bird captures it and flies away with it. Martin thanks Bart and Milhouse, because he has filmed the whole incident and he intends to send it in to Brockman and get $200. Milhouse reminds Bart that he must pay Kirk $400 for the camera. Bart's reaction to all this is "D'oh!".
