Synopsis[edit]

"Martin Prince decides to make a move up the Springfield Elementary food chain by auditioning for the role of Bart's second banana."

Plot[edit]

Sherri and Terri are hosting their birthday party, and Martin is not invited to it. He realizes that he is the least popular student and he must take over the person that is before him, Milhouse and because Milhouse is friends with Bart, he must take his place as Bart's best friend. The next day Martin tells Bart that he wants to challenge Milhouse to take over his place as his best friend. Bart is hesitant but after Martin gives him some raisin roundies he accepts Martin's challenge. The next day Milhouse gives Bart some comic books but they're boring comics. Martin gives Bart some tips for the test and gets him a perfect score. Milhouse then tries to give Bart matching suits but he refuses to wear it. Martin writes a play about how good it is to be Bart. Bart sees the play and likes it.

The next day during show and tell Milhouse shows pictures of pranks that he and Bart had done, which gets them both detention. Bart starts to take advantage of the pair and gets them to do his chores and homework. Next day Bart is about to give the boys their tasks, but Principal Skinner tells Bart he is violating the school's paper handling policy. Bart gets out of it by claiming they're suggestions for Skinner's suggestion box.

Skinner reads the suggestions at an assembly and actually believes Bart wants the students to have more chores and homework. Skinner assigns every student to do work for Groundskeeper Willie. The other students get Bart and hang him from the flagpole. Meanwhile Martin and Milhouse are invited to Allison Taylor's birthday party.
