- Bart calls Gandalf the Grey Yoda and asks him if a lightsaber can destroy the ring, both references to Star Wars.
- Bart asks what smells like a Phish concert when Gandalf and Frodo are smoking weed.
- Bart says that he bets Superman could destroy the ring.
- When Frodo says that this is the worst thing that has ever happened to the Fellowship, Bart asks about the Ralph Bakshi movie. This is a reference to the 1978 animated The Lord of the Rings film.
