Cultural references[edit]

  • Braveheart:
    • The story's title is a reference to the 1995 film.
    • Bart's speech, where he tries to get Milhouse and Martin to fight back against the bullies, is an obvious reference to William Wallace's speech to the Scottish army just before the Battle of Stirling Bridge in the movie.
  • Martin's proposed name for the snow fort was "Fort Chione", after Chione, who was the nymph responsible for snow in Greek mythology.
  • Jimbo's statement that the bullies have "both flavors" of snow (white and yellow) is a reference to "yellow snow" as a slang term for snow in which a person or animal has urinated.
