History

After Homer took Ling Bouvier from the Beijing Orphanage, he met up with the rest of the family in Tiananmen Square. They planned to go back home from here until they were stopped by Madam Wu in a tank.

The plaque in the Square says "On this site, in 1989, nothing happened."

Behind the Laughter

The plaque refers to the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 which led to the deaths of hundreds of protesters at the hands of the Chinese government.
