For a Limited Time Only is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #77.

Synopsis

Bart partners up with Larry H. Lawyer and sues a comic book company over truth in comic book advertising, and that's just the beginning of a civil suit that's anything but civil.

Plot

Bart is planning to buy an old comic book for the usual price of 25 cents at the Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop, but he finds that the price has been raised to a dollar so instead of buying the comic he wanted, he buys a box of tattered comics for his quarter. As Bart and Milhouse read the comics, they discover a coupon for a free comic book, Radioactive Man Meets Captain Code. They send the coupon, but they don't get a free comic because the coupon is several years old and rare. They contact Larry H. Lawyer, who helps them sue the publisher, saying that the coupon has no expiration date. Bart asks Lawyer if it also works with other old coupons, and he says it does. Bart and Milhouse start to use all the old coupons they can find to get free products and everyone accepts his coupons after Bart explains the law. Soon the rumor spreads in Springfield, and the stores are drained of free products and everything is reduced to a lower price. Bart begins to run out of coupons and is now searching for them in papers from the Civil War when he goes out on the town and finds that almost all the residents of the city have lower pay because the coupons have taken the corporate profits. He sees that Judge Snyder, who determined the law, is not doing so well over the law; his pay is cut but he tells Bart that he will not take it back so it looks like he made a mistake. Bart gives him an idea: he can change the law. The law becomes changed so that you can only get products from the same year that the coupon was made, so all residents must return their new products. Bart and Milhouse now wonder what they should do with their 20-year-old coupons for Krusty Cakes, so Apu tells them that twenty-year-old products are the lifeblood of the Kwik-E-Mart and the two boys cheer.
