Sad Girl is a manga comic with story by Lisa Simpson and art by Marge Simpson.

History

Comic

After suffering from nightmares due to stress at school, Lisa was told to do art therapy and was given a blank comic to fill in. However, Lisa's artistic talents weren't up to her standards, so Marge helped her out, drawing what Lisa asked her to draw. Lisa then went to take the comic back to her therapist, Annette. However, she found it was missing.

Kumiko Nakamura and Comic Book Guy found the comic lying on the ground and Kumiko decided to publish it as a proper comic. After finding this out, Marge and Lisa convinced Kumiko to destroy them, until Lisa realized that people liked the comic, so she decided that they should keep selling it.

Lisa rose to fame and was loved for the comic whilst none of the fans cared about Marge's work on the comic, leaving Marge to feel left out. The comic got shown off at a panel at Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con where this point hit home to Marge. Marge tried to convince Lisa to write a comic from the mom's point of view, but Lisa thought it would be better off as a separate comic not part of the series, which upset Marge. Lisa, annoyed at her mother, decided that they should take a break from the comic.

Musical stage adaptation

The musical show

Whilst they were arguing, Guthrie Frenel showed up at the house, wanting to turn the comic into a stage musical. Marge and Lisa decided to put aside their argument for the sake of the musical. However, Lisa realized that the musical was more around the art style of the comic rather than the story, with the story being a footnote to the musical. The character of Sad Girl was to be represented by a red light projected into an empty seat in the audience. This upset Lisa whilst making Marge happy, because the musical was about her art style.

Eventually, the musical was put on, and Lisa was upset at it not being based on her story any more. Marge, seeing that Lisa was upset, drew her face on a spotlight and beamed it onto the stage. Frenel, seeing this, spun the light away, into the operator's face, blinding him and causing the scenery and props to crash and break. Everything went into chaos and everyone had to evacuate the theater.

Afterwards, the reviews of the musical said it was a disaster, causing Frenel to become upset.

Plot

The first issue of the comic showed Sad Girl, based on Lisa, at lunch. The school's food was horrible and she ended up with an apple and a carton of milk. She then tried to find somewhere to sit but nobody wanted her to sit next to them, so Sad Girl ended up sitting on the floor.

Another comic had Sad Girl in the toilets, overhearing the other girls talking about how they weren't going to invite her to a birthday party.

The Adventures of Sad Girl's Mom

The Adventures of Sad Girl's Mom

The Adventures of Sad Girl's Mom was a spin-off of Sad Girl, featuring Sad Girl's Mom. The story and art were both by Marge.

Plot

Sad Girl's Mom goes to pick Sad Girl up from school. She sees Sad Girl waiting for her, and Sad Girl is lonely. When Sad Girl sees her mom, she's no longer lonely then everyone starts dancing.

Behind the Laughter

Sad Girl is inspired by Ghost World, by Daniel Clowes.
