Plot
Kang and Kodos force Bart into a cage and tell him they are such huge fans of Itchy and Scratchy that they had hoped to bring them back to their home planet of Rigel 4. Because Itchy and Scratchy are cartoon characters they used a machine to make them real - explaining how they were able to emerge from the Simpsons' television. The aliens briefly leave the ship and Bart escapes using an unexpected idea to use a giant hamster wheel. He steals the machine used to bring fictional characters to life, planning to use it on Radioactive Man. Although he succeeds, the pair cannot work out what to do next until Bart gets another unexpected idea (he later discovers these ideas are coming from Maggie who now has the ability to communicate telepathically). This idea allows him to create a machine that will send him back in time to moments before Itchy and Scratchy escaped from his television. Bart and Radioactive Man are nearly killed by the aliens but are rescued by Milhouse. The time travel is successful and Bart turns off the television before the aliens can use their machine on the cartoon. They give up and head to another planet.
