Server transfer and file uploads

Hi, any idea how long the transfer will take and when we can upload again because, don't mean to sound hasty or anything, but with the new episode recently airing, we would like uploads? Thanks, Solar Dragon ^{(Talk • Contribs.)} 12:31, 5 December 2011 (EST)

I was worried about the new episode too, so I actually purchased some emergency disk space for the server. I've just applied the changes and switched over to a new kernel, so you should now find that uploads are re-enabled. This is a temporary solution to a problem growing by the day, so I'm definitely going to try to move us to the new server ASAP. If you don't mind, could you please contact some of the other staff members and ask that they surrender their email accounts after deleting all personal information from it? Sadly, it doesn't look like we'll be able to offer staff email accounts on the new server. (At least until I figure out a way to override some of the system in a way that doesn't breach security.) I can't access my account via web portal (forgot my password - Thunderbird remembers it). I moved it all to a local folder, do you think this will delete it form the account. I doubt there's that much personal info in there but thought I'd check.--Cook879 16:54, 5 December 2011 (EST)

Christmas Logo

I've altered the new skin to prevent Common.css from changing the logo. Seasonal logos will definitely be implemented in the new skin soon. Right now I'm preparing for the server migration, which will occur either tomorrow or Thursday. Broken image

Piwik

It looks like the archival script wasn't running. All stats should now be available in Piwik, and will continue to update at five after each hour (XX:05) as usual. --Jake 21:05, 23 December 2011 (EST)

Fanon wiki

Random page

Yup! There's a link for them at the top of every Piwik page. The server sends them out as frequently as you request during its hourly processing. Simpsonswiki.net E-mail

I've noticed the sitenotices about the e-mail server having been down and now being back up again. Does this mean that we still have the capability to have simpsonswiki.net e-mail addresses, even now that we're on the new server? I never really went into detail on this, so I suppose now's a good time. The new server is capable of hosting email addresses, but only internally to server administrators. I cannot provide email accounts to other users without compromising the security of the whole server, and I think we can all agree that security is most important. The only reason I have an account is because I have direct access to the server anyway. I'm looking into playing around with the internals of the email system to try to make the old system work again, but it doesn't look promising at the moment because the new server is an entirely different operating system. I'd really like to be able to offer staff email accounts again if possible, and I'm sorry that we can't at the moment. --Jake 14:57, 13 January 2012 (EST)

Signatures (EST) and Server Time (UTC)

Hi, this was brought up on my talk page but why are signature timestamps in EST while server time it UTC? Is there any way of getting signatures into UTC as well? The Solar Dragon 09:28, 22 January 2012 (EST)

I've noticed this before on both of my sites, and it appears to be impossible to correct. You see, server time actually is EST, which is why all signatures and Piwik use that time zone. However, MediaWiki likes to display times in UTC even though everything is written in EST from the back-end. I'm afraid that we're just going to have to live with it until MediaWiki adds the ability to change the front-end timezone from UTC to something else. :\ --Jake 11:35, 22 January 2012 (EST)

Problems deleting an image

Hi, I'm having problems deleting :File:Menu.gif. The actual page was deleted but the image is still here. I got the following error:

Hi, could you possibly make a new user right for one rank underneath rollback? This right could have these: autopatrolled, movefile and suppressredirect. Hi, I've noticed that some wikis have a special page called "PopularPages" (Wikia included). I was just wondering if there was any way of us getting it. That page is actually built into MediaWiki, but we're not currently able to use it because I had to disable page view counters for performance reasons. However, our new server is more than capable of handling the extra processing on every page view, so I've told it to re-enable them starting at midnight. "simpsons" skin

I have neither the time nor the experience to develop an entirely new MediaWiki skin at the moment. Re-skinning Nookipedia is the closet thing I can get to making a dedicated skin for Wikisimpsons until this summer when I should have some more time to dedicate to learning MediaWiki skinning. Categories

External links in templates

Hi, a few times now, we've put external links into templates and they haven't shown up or even counted as an element of the template. This happened before the upgrade so it isn't that. At first i thought it was specific to the table template but it's also happened for {{QuoteEx}} I have no idea what is causing this problem so could you look into it please?
