History

After a failed attempt at rescuing his family from the EPA, Homer got stuck on the side of a wrecking ball, which started swinging him back and forth between A Hard Place and a large rock. After a while, the wrecking ball stopped and then fell on top of Homer.

Behind the Laughter

Homer swinging between a rock and A Hard Place is a reference to the saying "stuck between a rock and a hard place".
