The Great Springfield Donut War! is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #20.
Plot[edit]
Bart opened a crocodile and exotic reptile farm-etarium in the garden, which Homer does not appreciate. Homer asks Bart to pay the $250,000 damage to the lawn cost. Bart then asks Homer if he got in trouble as a child and Homer tells him a story. The story begins with Homer making a Woodstock on the lawn and destroying the entire lawn and his father, Abraham Simpson, wants him to pay for the damage.
Homer starts looking for a job but found nothing before passing Lard Lad Donuts, who had to lay off their mascot after he was too fat for the costume. The owner of Lard Lad Donuts says that in a few days he will get competition from Keep on Dunkin' Donuts that's opening across the street and he is worried that he might have to close the business, so he lets Homer be the new mascot. Homer begins to sweat in the suit but he will not give up, which irritates the owner of Keep on Dunkin' Donuts, who wants no competition. He decides to get Homer to stop working as the mascot by gluing the head and getting dogs to chase him, yet he does not give up and discovers that Keep on Dunkin' Donuts has caused the accidents. Homer contacts Barney who thinks they can take revenge on Keep on Dunkin' Donuts and that night they sneak in and place lots of insects in the store.
Homer discovers that their donuts are synthetic, not organic as they promised, which means that they also lie and do not just want to get rid of the competition. They are found by James Maplethorpe III, owner of Keep on Dunkin' Donuts, and he discovers that Homer and Barney know the truth about his donuts and wants to secure them, so commands his employees to imprison them. However Homer & Barney manage to escape just before the store opens.
Outside the store there has formed a long queue and when they see Homer and Barney gets chased by Maplethorpe and lots of insects leave the building they queue decide then to contact the chief Health Inspector and he closes the store. Homer then gets a big bonus from the owners of Lard Lad Donuts and can eat as many donuts as he wants. But he becomes so fat that he can not fit into the suit and is forced to quit. That makes Abe angry and Homer tells Bart that just as his father did, he's going to force Bart to pay for the damage. Bart gets Homer to be quiet and they go to Lard Lad Donuts where Bart is considering whether they need a new mascot.
