Game Information
|
Kevin Costner's Waterworld is an arcade game based on the 1995 film Waterworld.
Description[edit]
The game costs forty quarters to play. The player controls the Mariner, Kevin Costner's character in the film. The game starts with the Mariner standing on a dock. After the player takes one step, the game is over and the player must deposit another forty quarters to continue.
History[edit]
Milhouse played the game on a Friday afternoon, the same day that Homer Simpson had his first sighting of the alien in the forest. Milhouse deposited forty quarters and said "This better be good" as he started the game. Milhouse took one step, and the game ended, saying, "Game over. Please deposit forty quarters." Milhouse loudly complained, "What a rip!", but then reached into his pocket, pulled out a large handful of quarters, and began depositing them into the game.
Behind the Laughter[edit]
The game's costing forty quarters to play is a reference to Waterworld experiencing several cost overruns during production and becoming the most expensive movie (at the time) ever made.
