Wikisimpsons:Admin Requests/Randomno

Wikisimpsons - The Simpsons Wiki
Red cross.png This nomination is closed and was unsuccessful. The reason for this is: 3 support, 1 neutral, 6 oppose. Closed early by the nominator.

I suppose I might as well nominate myself. The reason I've made a request is because we only have three active admins, one of which only edits a few times a day. Three very active admins could work, as I'm often online when Cook and Solar aren't. Also, as admins can now win Golden Homers, I haven't really got anything to lose. Support (3)[edit]

  1. Again, the first time I came here, I thought you were an admin. You act like an admin, you edit a lot, you are well respected. Yes. WebkinzMania 15:58, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
  2. No doubt in my mind! Good luck, Randomno. --Fred (Talk Contribs. Editcount) 02:30, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
  3. Think he could be a good admin. I was thinking of noming myself for admin, but Randomno is a more experienced editor. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 13:51, 2 May 2012 (EDT)

#Of course! FatHomerTalk 16:06, 1 May 2012 (EDT)

Neutral (1)[edit]

  1. I'm recusing myself from voting here. Since Randomno basically threw down a gauntlet on my talk page, I'm not in a position to cast an unbiased vote. -- Mythigator 15:14, 2 May 2012 (EDT)

Oppose (6)[edit]

  1. You are a great user. However, I haven't really seen you do anything admins might do. I don't mean delete things etc. I mean telling users when they are breaking policies, warning vandals and you don't really try to make new policies or make changes to policies from what I've seen. Also, 3 admins is enough at the moment. The community isn't overly large and we don't need any more admins as we can generally handle deletions etc. when they are needed. The Solar Dragon 02:33, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
    • The reason for that, Solar, is I don't think I've ever been around when there's a vandal. I welcome loads of users, though. Also, how are they proper policies if they can be changed? | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 02:46, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
  2. This is obviously nothing against you, Randomno. I agree with Solar in that you're a great user, but I've never really thought of you as administrator material. You may in fact be administrator material for all I know, but you haven't had an opportunity to display it given that the community is strong enough to support itself without administrative interference at this moment in time. And that's not to mention your statement that "I don't think I've ever been around when there's a vandal." You also mentioned that you "welcome loads of users," which is a fine accomplishment, but bear in mind that welcoming users isn't necessarily an administrator's responsibility. I fear that you're nominating yourself for partly the wrong reasons, perhaps as more of a reward for your many contributions than anything else. And even if you are nominating yourself solely out of a genuine interest in patrolling and maintaining Wikisimpsons with extra tools, I feel that those would only serve as a rather novelty reward until the time comes when more members of the administration are required. Perhaps rollback rights would be better suited for the time being, but we currently have quite the abundance of users with these rights. So, tl;dr — I'm opposing for now. Perhaps I would be more friendly to the idea of supporting in the future, when adding new members to the administration is actually necessary. At any rate, I wish you good luck, and once again this is nothing against your skills as an editor. Supergeeky1 05:10, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
  3. Not mature enough to be effective as an admin. Rheet Rheet 14:37, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
  4. Sorry Randomno, but I think Rollback would be better for you, I thought you already were a rollback. FatHomerTalk 15:09, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
  5. Based on my messages in the comment section.--Cook879 17:31, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
  6. Nothing against you, but I have to agree with some of the points raised by others. --Nick97 (talk ~ contribs) 18:32, 2 May 2012 (EDT)

Comments[edit]

  • As per supergeeky's comment, did you consider rollback? It's the next logical step. Also basing this on "when others aren't on is not a good idea, as if we used this we should be biased towards someone from the Eastern side of the world. I'll write a full opionion tonight or tomorrow.--Cook879 07:19, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
    • I guess that bot work damaged my chance a bit. Rollback isn't brilliant. | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:47, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
      • The bot, in theory, is a different topic, as operating a bot is not needed for adminship, though your conduct through it may affect people's views. Contributing to the wiki should be your main focus, not status. Rollback rights are the best rights for both your's and the wiki's needs. You needed rollback to fix your bot errors, so don't go dismissing it.--Cook879 12:53, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
        • But rollback is included in adminship, and I'd also like the tools to delete stuff when necessary. | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 13:18, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
          • Many people would like the tools, but whether that's suitable and necessary are different matters.--Cook879 13:28, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
            • They haven't nominated themselves or been nominated... | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 13:34, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
              • "I'd also like the tools to delete stuff when necessary" So... what you're saying is you'd like to be a janitorial admin... We don't need one of those. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 14:12, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
                • What else do admins do? | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 14:14, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
                  • Help make policies, propose changes to policies, help users out with things (which you seem to do), help to represent the community to the outside world, more things I can't currently think of. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 14:16, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
                    • Okay, one and two you suggested I do as a normal user, which doesn't make any sense. Number three, umm... okay... Number four, normal users can do that. In fact, in saying this, does it sound like I'm opposing to myself? | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 14:19, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
                      • Normal users can propose policies and propose changes to policies. Doing this can show me if you are good admin material and know what you are doing, and have common sense. I haven't seen this from you yet. Also, yes, normal users can do that but admins represent the community more. If you are a good representative to the community, it might bring in more users. Basically, help connect the wiki with other websites etc. Help give Wikisimpsons a reputation. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 14:31, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
                        • Who are you, Rheet? FatHomerTalk 15:06, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
                          • I am Rheet, I have big plans for this wiki. Rheet Rheet 15:16, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
  • Without naming names, Randomno made a fair point that I haven't been very active lately. I hold down a full-time job, so my chances to get on and do some editing are basically limited to lunchtime, evenings, and weekends, and MAYBE a little during the daytime if I spot a quick fix to make and it's REALLY slow at work. However, even that has been curtailed as my boss has been on leave for the last few weeks, which means I have more to do. I'm sure we're all familiar with the concept of real life intruding on online activity, and for me, real life has been pretty darn intrusive of late. I've been doing the best I can both online and elsewhere while having more responsibilities than usual to juggle, and anyone who wants to quibble about how I'm doing can shove off and take a long walk off a short pier. </rant> -- Mythigator 15:30, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
    • Thanks, Mythigator, but you forgot the opening rant tag. Anyway, if someone votes before tommorrow, depending on what they vote, I may close this. It seems there a little things I wasn't aware of and it seems I don't need admin rights just at the moment, if at any time. | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 15:46, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
      • Actually, to be honest, what's wrong with having a janitorial admin? | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 15:49, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
        • 1) I'm staying out of this vote. 2) Regarding the opening rant tag, I refer you to my previous two-part piece of advice. Would you like me to add a third part that involves a carnal act which is an anatomical impossibility? (typo fix) -- Mythigator 15:55, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
  • Something I posted on Mythigator's talk page in response to Randomno, can go here too: Randomno, Mythigator is an admin nearly purely because he is more mature than a majority of the users, due to being older. He's a great user and he has been known to follow policies etc. Randomno, you still have to mature. As I have seen from this talk page post, the one you posted on Frederick's talk page and others in the past, you are still fairly immature which is why I don't want to give you admin rights. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 17:50, 2 May 2012 (EDT)
    • Right now, I'm facing loads of vandalism and there's no admin to revert it. | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 04:17, 5 May 2012 (EDT)
