Wikisimpsons - The Simpsons Wiki

This is a "work in progress" page for references to Logan's Run in The Simpsons and is intended to be finished and placed in the mainspace when five references have been located (the minimum for a stand-alone "Cultural References" article). If you know of more, please leave me a note on my talk page. Thank you! -- Mythigator (talk) 12:01, September 2, 2022 (EDT)

Logan's Run is a 1976 American dystopic science fiction film, starring Michael York and Jenny Agutter, based on the 1967 novel of the same title by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. The film gave rise to a short-lived TV series which aired for 14 episodes in 1977 and 1978; in addition, Nolan wrote two sequel novels.

The film's premise is that following an unspecified long-ago disaster, human civilization now consists of a single large city, a cluster of connected domes controlled by a sophisticated computer system. To keep the population size and available resources in balance, all citizens are executed when they reach the age of thirty, in an elaborate ritual called "Carrousel". However, the populace are told that rather than being killed, the people in Carrousel are being "renewed" to a higher existence. People's ages are indicated by means of a crystal implanted in the palm of their hand, called a "life clock", which changes colors as they grow older. When they reach their 30th birthday, the crystal starts blinking red and they are required to report to that day's Carrousel ritual. Citizens who choose to flee the city rather than submit are called "Runners", and they are then pursued by "Sandmen", a police force with the task of tracking down and executing Runners.

In the film, Logan 5 (York) is a Sandman who is given the task of finding and destroying Sanctuary, a semi-mythical place to which some Runners are rumored to have fled and thus escaped execution. Logan's life clock is advanced four years to blinking red so he can pass as a Runner. Unsure of whether his four years will be restored to him, Logan becomes a Runner for real. He meets Jessica 6 (Agutter), a fellow Runner who is a member of an underground group that helps Runners escape and is believed to know the location of Sanctuary. The film's plotline revolves around Logan and Jessica fleeing the city in search of Sanctuary. In the course of their flight they face several threats, among them one of Logan's fellow Sandmen.

Logan's Run has been referred to several times in the Simpsons universe.
