Little known fact: TV shows with a 4:3 ratio are natively at 640x480px or smaller proportions, but are 720x540px on DVDs. The black lines on both sides of the image are supposed to be there too. Proof is that if you take a screen capture of a frame from a Simpsons DVD via VLC media player, it shows the black lines with it.
