Play Information
|
Roach is a play written by Tracy Letts. It is a Kafkaesque reimagining of The Metamorphosis. It stars an unnamed actor as Gregor Samsa and Tracy Letts as an enormous shoe.
History[edit]
Julian, Katya, Lars, and Lisa went to see Roach while Lisa was in Capital City. In the play, Gregor Samsa's father started hitting him because he had turned into a giant roach. Lisa decided to interrupt the play because she didn't want the character to get hurt. Tracy Letts then went on stage and told Lisa that she was the first person to interfere with the play and save the cockroach, which proved that she was one of the most sensitive and artistically attuned people he had ever met. Letts then made the audience give Lisa a round of applause.
Behind the Laughter[edit]
The banner for Roach says that the play is "a Kafkaesque reimagining of The Metamorphosis". The Metamorphosis, however, is one of Franz Kafka's already-surreal best-known works. The subtitles refer to the character in the show as "Gregor Samsa", who is the main character of The Metamorphosis.
