"Scary Movie" is the thirty-eighth Simpsons short. It aired on The Tracey Ullman Show on February 12, 1989.
Synopsis[edit]
Bart, Lisa and Maggie go to the movie to see Return of the Happy Little Elves (much to Bart's dismay), but Bart convinces the girls to see Revenge of the Space Mutants instead. However, Bart ends up being scared by the movie.
Bart, Lisa and Maggie head to the theater. Lisa is excited to watch The Happy Little Elves Return, unlike Bart. She even chants, "We're going to a movie! We're going to a movie!", much to his annoyance. She asks Bart which elf is his favorite, but he remarks that he cannot tolerate the elves. Lisa even agitates Bart by comparing him Gloomy, the self-hating elf. Lisa then whispers to Maggie that he also resembles him.
When the kids arrive at the theater, Lisa and Maggie admire the Return of the Happy Little Elves poster, but Bart gets excited over a poster of Revenge of the Space Mutants. Lisa finds the movie too scary. Bart ignores her and purchases tickets for them and Maggie to watch the film. He states that they will thank him in the future for having them watch the movie.
In the theater, just before the movie starts, Bart, with popcorn and a drink, informs to Lisa and Maggie about the death rays, flying saucers and giant eyeballs in the movie. He scares them both. He tells them to conquer their fear and allows them to hold his hand if the movie becomes too frightening.
The film, in black and white, begins with a spaceship flying down to Earth. On Earth the spaceship door rises, revealing a three-eyed alien resembling Bart. In reaction, Bart freaks out and screams; Lisa and Maggie hold both of his hands to calm him down.
