"Je suis Charlie" (French for "I am Charlie") is a slogan adopted by supporters of free speech and freedom of expression after the massacre in which 12 people were killed at the offices of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris, France on January 7, 2015.

At the end of the season 26 episode "Bart's New Friend" which aired just days after the shooting, an animation of Maggie holding up a flag with the slogan on it was shown. Showrunner Al Jean stated that they thought the ideal person to hold the flag would Maggie because she doesn't speak.[1]
