Wikisimpsons - The Simpsons Wiki

I have some suggestions on ways on how to improve Wikisimpsons. This is not a rant. This is me opening up the discussion to the community on their concerns or ways about my suggestions to improve the wiki. Here are my proposals:

  • To replace the poll with a rotating system of three things: Did you know?, Featured Cleanup and a newsletter
    • The Did you know system is a system to showcase new or expanded articles. The new article must have at least 20 words of prose and the expansion must be at least 45 words of prose. This will help make more people edit/create pages.
    • Featured cleanup are articles that need cleaning up. The articles would be selected by a user/committee of users. This was used in the earlier years of this wiki to good effect.
    • A newsletter is a newsletter with news about the wiki. It would be written by a user.
  • Add more humour into the wiki.
  • A Portal: namespace for stuff like characters, comics, locations etc., which incorporates a featured article, picture and a sidebar with link to categories etc.
  • Implement the poll idea suggested by TheUnderfaker on Talk:Main Page.

These are my suggestions. Feel free to comment. Doh5678 (talk) 16:07, 8 August 2011 (EDT)

  • A rotation system? How would that work? One every month? Surely all could fit somehow due to the free space we have.
    • I know we want to be unique but I think it's a much better having multiple short DYK's over one big one like we have at Template:Did You Know now.
    • Don't see anything wrong with that - Many articles need cleaning.
    • Weren't you working on that?
  • Hmm. I'm not sure how well it will work just due to the number of people who will view it will be quite low. However if we can ensure people will actually use it, unlike the Project pages, then I don't see why not.
  • I think the poll is a good idea. Also if we can make users only it will encourage more people to sign up.

@Cook879 The rotation would be one of those things every four months. Yes we would have multiple DYK's and I was working on the Newsletter. Doh5678 (talk) 04:23, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

Could I please help with something to do with the newsletter? It was my idea in the first place. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 15:36, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

Yes, you can write it. :-) Doh5678 (talk) 15:48, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
Should the release of the next issue be verified by Solar when he gets back from vacation? Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 15:53, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
Why should it be verified by Solar? FatHomerTalk 16:17, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

Since polls are broke, how could we enable a vote each episode thing?

Also, I do not need to verify anything. It is not my wiki, it is the community's wiki. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 19:07, 10 August 2011 (EDT)
