History

When Rod Flanders was staying over at the Simpsons' house, he and Lisa watched the cartoon. Rod was bored, however, so the two went upstairs to study instead.

In the cartoon, Itchy is shown pulling on Scratchy's ear, stretching it out and presumably later cutting it off.
