Blog:Tabs on commercial pages

Wikisimpsons - The Simpsons Wiki

So, we have tabs on commercial pages, i.e. Piggy Bank. I don't believe we should for several reasons:

  1. Most of the tabs will never be long or may not even get any information.
  2. References can only have one or two points, may as well go in the article.
  3. Pages are small enough without tabs. Just merge them all together.

What does everyone else think? The Solar Dragon 07:45, February 5, 2015 (EST)

I like the tabs because
  1. They have dialog
  2. They have some times a references
  3. They have appearances

Those things can all be merged into the main articles, which are usually tiny. The Solar Dragon 09:04, February 5, 2015 (EST)
We could have a tab template for commercials consisting only of "General", "Appearances", "References" and maybe "quotes" too. / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 09:46, February 5, 2015 (EST)
I still think those pages will be too tiny to be necessary. We can easily merge them all into one page. The Solar Dragon 09:47, February 5, 2015 (EST)
Well, if they are too tiny they should be merged. Maybe the "appearances" tab should stay (but only if there's a considerable amount of appearances in a commercial). / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 10:24, February 5, 2015 (EST)
I agree with Solar, but if the advert page contains too much info to not be split up, such as "Hard Times", we should - as all that info (esp. Appearances) can't go into one article, and we could use a Quotes tab to put the entire transcript in (if it's super long). In smaller articles such as Piggy Bank, "I'll Be Your Best Friend" (where the Quotes are already on the main page anway) and "Box", we should wipe out ad tabs, as having tabs like that is just creating unwanted excess code and in most cases, red links for un-created tabs. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 16:53, February 5, 2015 (EST)
We could just do it on a case-by-case basis. If the ad is long enough/has enough information to be able to fill out the tabs then it could have them, otherwise that info could just be in one article. In any case, I think the credits tab would be rather pointless, and the quotes tab could just be switched out for a transcript tab. By the time you've filled out a quotes tab you'd pretty much have the entire ad written out anyways. --Nick97 (talk ~ contribs) 10:33, February 9, 2015 (EST)
