Blog:Main Page Vote

Wikisimpsons - The Simpsons Wiki

I have made three new possible designs for the main page. All are pretty similar with a few differences as people generally liked the design I made first. I am therefore opening up a vote for the main page design.

Rules[edit]

  1. Voters are allowed one vote each and only one design can be voted for.
  2. Any sockpuppet voting will result in that user's votes getting disqualified.

Vote[edit]

Current main page[edit]

  1. I like it as it is, for now. | SimpsonsFR.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFD.pngSimpsonsFO.pngSimpsonsFM.pngSimpsonsFN.pngSimpsonsFO.png | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 15:52, 30 March 2012 (EDT)
  2. Ditto. --Fred (Talk Contribs.) 18:13, 30 March 2012 (EDT)
  3. I prefer the current main page opposed to the others, although I like the idea of a new main page. DaRanger (Talk) 21:35, 30 March 2012 (EDT)
  4. It's great how it is. --Wk (talk) 02:45, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
  5. Mainly I like the layout as it is, although putting the links to the other wikis at the top is a good idea. --Nick97 (talk ~ contribs) 12:44, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
  6. I genuinely like both layouts, but the current main page is more suited to my interests. In my honest opinion, main pages should always put the topic of the wiki first (In this case, The Simpsons) and wiki affairs last. On the three redesigns, they're all kind of mixed in together (Such as the Simpsons Wiki Network box at the top and the Featured Picture down at the bottom, away from the rest of the Featured boxes), whereas the current main page layout is far more balanced. I think ultimately, this sort of layout is going to attract more users than the redesigns. But with that said, I do like the color scheme of the third design and I like how it removes the white gap currently present on the bottom of the main page. If someone would be interested in making a hybrid of the two, then I'd certainly re-evaluate my opinion. Supergeeky1 13:35, 31 March 2012 (EDT)

First redesign[edit]

  1. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 11:15, 30 March 2012 (EDT)

Second redesign[edit]

Third redesign[edit]

  1. Didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would. SolarDragonName.png (Talk - Contribs.) 09:14, 30 March 2012 (EDT)
  2. Definitely this one, don't like how squashed the quotes/on this day part looks on the other two. Josegiraffio 09:25, 30 March 2012 (EDT)
  3. Agree with Josegiraffio.--Cook879 13:43, 30 March 2012 (EDT)
  4. I agree. WebkinzMania 15:50, 30 March 2012 (EDT)
  5. --Simpsons88 09:34, 31 March 2012 (EDT)

Second voting[edit]

Okay, the first vote gave me some insight that I decided to use. I therefore made a new main page, a fourth redesign. I will be cutting out the first and second redesigns from the running and adding in my new redesign along with the two most popular ones. Same rules apply.

All I did for this redesign was update the out of date code, made the page fixed height (hopefully) and removed the create boxes (they were pretty much useless and no one used them). ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 11:00, 2 April 2012 (EDT)

Current main page[edit]

Third redesign[edit]

#I still stick by this. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 11:01, 2 April 2012 (EDT) #It looks nice, and clean. FatHomerTalk 14:31, 2 April 2012 (EDT) #As will I. WebkinzMania 15:10, 2 April 2012 (EDT)

Fourth redesign[edit]

  1. I like this design, but it's pretty similar to the current main page though. All that's been changed is the width of the bar on the right. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 12:56, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
  2. This one just makes sense to me. Like a newspaper, the more important "meatier" articles are front and center, while the shorter stuff is along the side. --Nick97 (talk ~ contribs) 18:13, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
  3. I like this because it is the most similar to the main page. That is what I want! --Fred (Talk Contribs.) 18:14, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
  4. I agree with Frederick. I also think this design makes best use of the available space, while still keeping the important content closer to the top. --Jake 23:56, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
  5. I came across the fourth redesign purely by accident and thought it looked great. My opinion still holds after checking out the third redesign, so #4 gets my vote. Also, I agree with the previous comments about #4 doing a good job at keeping the important stuff centered and near the top. On #3, I just don't like the look of the wiki network at the top of the page. Maybe it's due to Homer's head giving that section a "weightier" appearance, so it looks a bit unnatural that close to the top of the page. -- Mythigator 03:45, 3 April 2012 (EDT)
  6. I think I have finally ironed out everything wrong with this design. It should now stay fixed length (hopefully :S ) and if not, it should only take minor changes to keep it that length when we change the featured content. As long as we don't have any quotes longer than the one we currently have, we should be fine. And, I am now changing my vote to this. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 06:08, 3 April 2012 (EDT)
  7. Solar fixed the length, which was my main concern, so I'm all for this. WebkinzMania 07:42, 3 April 2012 (EDT)
  8. If the right "sidebar" goes so it's between the other side (Sorry I don't know how to express it.) FatHomerTalk 08:58, 3 April 2012 (EDT)
  9. I like the colors it uses and how it remains almost completely the same. DaRanger (Talk) 14:01, 3 April 2012 (EDT)
  10. --Simpsons88 11:03, 5 April 2012 (EDT)
  11. Funny enough, though I really originally didn't like it... it is pretty nice.. --Wk (talk) 01:15, 7 April 2012 (EDT)

Comments[edit]

  • The reason I thought we need a new main page design is for a couple of reasons. The current one has a now defunct colour scheme. Two of the new ones I designed use the same colours as our templates. Also, the two columns are different sizes and keep changing depending on the content in the boxes. This looks somewhat ugly and unprofessional. Hence in my designs, it is all one size. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 18:20, 30 March 2012 (EDT)
  • It's quite funny that Solar should vote for the third option. I asked him to make it, but he was reluctant. --Wk (talk) 02:45, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
    • The first time I did that sort of thing, it looked bad. I tried it again and improved some sizing things and it looked quite a bit better that time round. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 07:49, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
  • @Phinbart, the reason I only changed the design slightly was because there was a majority of support for the current main page in the previous vote! ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 13:56, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
  • Ok, it seems like we have a winner, so should we change now?
