The Read Menace! is the second story in the series The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II and was published in the second issue, The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II #2. The comics was reprinted in The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis. It was published in Futurama Comics 17 in the UK.

The Simpsons is with Fry and his friends in the space and chased by spacecrafts from 1950s Pulp Fiction novels who want to catch them, but they manage to accidentally get the whole fleet to explode. When they celebrating the victory, become they trapped by Nimbus. It turns out that Waylon Smithers, Jr. has made mutiny and he is now the captain of the ship, and he's going to force them to help him raid the galaxy but after Marge and Leela telling him at Mr. Burns dating Mom, he decides to go back to Earth. On Earth continues the characters from the books attacking the Earth population and when the Nimbus lands are also they attacked but after Bart states that The Simpsons also are characters like them they stop attacking them so the Simpsons can finally run to the Planet Express headquarters where Lisa find how they can stop the attacks after she asking the "What If-machine" about what they would do if they knew how to beat the fictional characters.
The Simpsons walk to the library where the vortex is that transformed all the characters into real people. They throw a page with Giant Homer from Simpsons Comics #1 in to the vortex and Giant Homer from the magazine come to life. They tell Giant Homer that there is beer and he starts to walk around the streets of New New York City in search of the beer and trampling and kills several of the characters from the books. The characters that survive give up and go into vortex to become a character in the books again. One problem is still left, the Giant Homer is about to destroy the city. They decide to use a TV that is moving and filming Marge holding pork chops to lead him into the vortex. Before the Simpsons jumps into the vortex follow they their new friends in a new delivery, pick up the rest from Springfield. Meanwhile has Mom return Mr. Burns but she soon becomes happy, it turns out that she has a bit of his DNA and she makes a clone of him that will awaken in a year. Mom says to her clone at when he will wake up in a year they are together again and then they will teach the universe the true meaning of pain, and it'll be excellent.
