Maggie's Crib is a Bart Simpson Comics story that appears in Bart Simpson 56. It has since been reprinted in Bart Simpson to the Rescue!.

Synopsis

When Snake burglarizes the Simpson home, it's up to Maggie to scare him off.

Plot

The scene is the Simpson home in the middle of the night. Snake climbs into the house through the living room window and and shines his flashlight around, looking around for things to steal. He makes enough noise to awaken Maggie, who climbs out of her crib and goes downstairs to investigate. She peeks around a corner and through a doorway to see Snake putting valuables into a gunny sack.

Looking for help, Maggie finds Santa's Little Helper asleep on a throw rug. She wakes him up and points in the direction of Snake, evidently trying to sic the dog on the burglar. To her annoyance, Santa's Little Helper ignores her and goes back to sleep. Although she's disgusted with the dog, Maggie keeps thinking and after a moment she gets an idea.

Snake, meanwhile, is still stuffing valuables into his gunny sack. A light suddenly comes on and startles him. He looks up and sees a shadow on the wall that looks like a man wearing a hunting cap and carrying a rifle. Now terrified, Snake drops his loot and beats a hasty retreat from the house, running pell-mell through the yard and not looking back.

Back in the house, the view changes slightly to show that Maggie has put a lamp on the floor, turned it on, and stepped into the light wearing a saucepan on her head and carrying a rake (grasping it near the teeth and pointing the handle into the air), thus projecting the shadow that scared Snake away. Maggie smiles in triumph at her success.
