The Farmer and the Cowman is a song from the 1950s musical Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! In a fantasy sequence of Milhouse's in the episode Milhouse of Sand and Fog, Bart and Milhouse sing it. The music was written by Richard Rodgers and the lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

Lyrics

Milhouse:
Maybe we should use a different movie as our guide. Like Oklahoma!
(Milhouse has a fantasy where Bart and Milhouse are dressed as characters from the musical)
Bart and Milhouse:
Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends,
Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends.
Milhouse:
One man likes to push a plow...
Bart:
The one likes to chase a cow...
Bart and Milhouse:
But that's no reason why they cain't be friends.
(both shoot pistols)
Milhouse:
Whadaya think, Bart? A hoedown could solve all our problems.
Bart:
I thought I told you, no Rodgers and Hammerstein!
Milhouse:
Rodgers and Hart?
Bart:
No!
