References/Trivia

Cultural references

  • The scene in the Itchy & Scratchy cartoon where Scratchy is torn to pieces by a tornado is reminiscent of a scene in the 2000 sci-fi film Mission to Mars where an astronaut suffers a very similar fate.
  • When Homer thinks he's in a post-apocalyptic future:
    • He thinks he might be the last man on earth, "like the Fresh Prince", a reference to Will Smith in I Am Legend.
    • He laments, "That hot chick in the cell phone ads. Oh, why did she have to die?", referring to T-Mobile spokeswoman Carly Foulkes.

Trivia

Continuity

Homer time-jumps for real (albeit in a non-canon setting) in the "Time and Punishment" segment of "Treehouse of Horror V".
