"Cape Feare" is the second episode of Season 5. It aired on October 7, 1993. The episode was written by Jon Vitti and directed by Rich Moore. Kelsey Grammer reprises his role as Sideshow Bob.

After Bart starts receiving death threats from his nemesis Sideshow Bob, the Simpsons enter the Witness Relocation Program and move to a "Cape Fear"-esque town several miles away.

Plot

Bart Simpson receives threatening letters and becomes paranoid. Sideshow Bob is released from prison. He reveals that it was him that wrote the death threats. So the family gets put on the Witness Relocation Program.Little do they know that Sideshow Bob is in the underside of their car. He then follows the Simpsons to the town of Terror Lake, where they become The Thompsons. Sideshow Bob comes out of the boot, only to get hit in the face by nine rakes. Bart sees him and warns Homer and Marge.

He gets inside their new houseboat to murder Bart in his room. While on their houseboat, Bart, as a last request, convinces Bob to sing the entire score of the HMS Pinafore. When he tries, in the meantime, they float by Springfield, where Bob is arrested by the police and is sent back to jail. After Bob is sent to jail again, the Simpsons return to Evergreen Terrace and everything is back to normal, well, aside from Abraham Simpson mysteriously transforming into Grandma Simpson as a result of not not being able to take his pills.

Reception

In 2003, Entertainment Weekly named this the third greatest episode in the history of the show. It won Outstanding Dramatic Score in a Series-1994. Al Jean described Cape Feare as his most favourite Sideshow Bob episode and his most favourite Simpsons episode.
