Stand by Me! is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #219.

Synopsis[edit]

"After a run-in with the paparazzi, Krusty the Clown hires Homer to stand in for him, or rather, stand next to him -- because Homer makes Krusty look good by comparison. Meanwhile, Lisa becomes a stand-in studio musician for Bleeding Gums Murphy's sister, Flossy Murphy. But Homer and Lisa soon discover that the life of a second-hand, stopgap, stand-in celebrity isn't all it's cracked up to be."

Plot[edit]

The Simpson family is at Luigi's, where Homer eats up all the food so they must close. Lisa meets Flossy Murphy and the two start to jam together. Flossy likes Lisa and gives her a gig at her place tomorrow. The paparazzi take a picture of Krusty knocking down Monsieur Pamplemousse, and Homer gets in the photo. After the image is published, Krusty hires Homer for all his events because he looks better in the picture if Homer is also in it.

Homer's first assignment with Krusty is an inauguration of Krusty Burger, where Homer embarrasses himself by stuffing French fries into his pockets. Lisa is at the recording studio and her dreams are coming true. Homer is with Krusty at a kid's birthday party, where he destroys their bouncy castle. After a few days, Lisa hears the music she recorded on the radio and it turns out to be used to advertise things she does not stand for. Homer then follows Krusty onto a film set, where he replaces him in a background role as a favor for Rainer Wolfcastle. Rainer does not like Homer, because he ruined the recording but the producer tells him that the viewers love him. Homer starts to invade other recordings in the background. Lisa tells Flossy she doesn't like the fact that they use her music for commercials and that's why she gave away her place. Homer begins to feel bad about embarrassing himself and Marge decides to end his career.

When Lisa hears them doing a TV version of the advertisement, she decides to get revenge by changing the lyrics. Homer is with Krusty during a TV recording, when Marge shows up and kisses Homer and tells him that she loves him. Krusty then thinks he looks worse in the picture, and he fires Homer. On TV they start to show the commercials with Lisa's lyrics, which upsets the owners of the products, while Lisa is pleased with the results of her revenge. Krusty hires the Spuckler family to make him look better in pictures again, but it goes bad and Krusty regrets choosing them.
