"Good Cats, Bad Choices" is an episode of The Itchy & Scratchy Show.

Plot

Itchy and Scratchy are appearing as guests on a talk show. A sad-looking Scratchy sits in a chair onstage, and a caption reading "Says mouse friend mistreats him" appears on the screen with him. Meanwhile, Itchy is backstage having a drink out of a bottle and watching Scratchy on a monitor. When Itchy sees Scratchy's caption, he is shocked and a caption appears on the screen with Itchy: "Feels he is the victim". Itchy smashes the bottle in half and heads for the stage, carrying the broken bottle.

Back on stage, Scratchy is still in his chair, and a new caption appears on the screen with him: "Doesn't know slashing is imminent". When he reads the caption, he panics and screams. Just then, Itchy walks onto the stage, to applause from the audience. He jumps onto the arm of Scratchy's chair, brandishing the bottle as Scratchy cringes.

At this point, the cartoon is interrupted and a "SPECIAL REPORT" graphic appears on the screen, to the surprise of Bart and Lisa watching the cartoon. Homer thinks that someone has found his keys, but Kent Brockman comes on and reads a story about an oil tanker running aground and spilling millions of gallons of oil on Baby Seal Beach.

Behind the Laughter

  • The show in which Itchy and Scratchy appear is a parody of tabloid talk shows in general, and most likely of The Jerry Springer Show in particular as Springer's show was the most famous in the genre in the mid-90s when the episode originally aired.
