Amish Country is a tourist destination where the Simpson family once went on holiday.

History

While recalling the times she was embarrased on family vacations, Marge remembered the family's trip to Amish Country. Homer stuck ice cream cones on everyone and everything he encountered, taking great delight in the fact that no one was getting angry, fighting back or reacting at all: "Hee hee! I can be a jerk and no one can stop me!" Homer's good time came to an end, however, when he stuck an ice cream cone on a mule and it kicked him.

Behind the Laughter

  • Homer's behavior in Amish Country exploits the Amish philosophy of nonresistance.
  • The scene of the Simpsons in Amish Country is very similar to a scene from the 1985 movie Witness (1985 film)Witness where Alexander Godunov's Amish character is harrassed by out-of-town visitors. In the movie, however, Harrison Ford's character (who was not Amish, but in hiding among them) comes to the rescue and strikes back at the tormentors.
